Then And Now
P K Routray
Tearing apart
the core of my heart
come out sighs of grief
cursing the time, the cruel thief
robbibg me of my golden days
leaving behind only memories to dream and gaze.
Cherish I a childhood passion
with my grandma, the evening session
to listen to a story from the lip of grand mother
from king, queen, common man to ghost ghouls and monster.
Being certain of her strength, authority and wisdom
the touch of her soft warm body drove away fear awesome..
Thus then the pitch darkness, the howling of jackals from village crematory
could not frighten a child’s heart to listen to a ghost and ghoul’s story.
Now our grandkids weep to watch cartoons on tv screens under well-lit illumination.
My novice brain tells, my grandma’s tales were more educative and had superior mission.
Her tales were handed down over generations to condition a tender brain
nurtured by the strokes of love from a person, our hearts till death who does reign.
The case is similar to the foods with varying nourishing power of nutrient
one cooked by the mother with love and the other from the commercial restaurant.

aye, we lost something when
aye, we lost something when we get older and the young pick up what they pick up. Maybe they see with different eyes.
