A Sad Observation

It seems to me that, in every generation, parents seem to think that the world has got more dangerous and children want more freedom.
I am not a teenager but I am no longer of an age when I would like my real age publicized, even though being young was not a happy time for me. I seem to recall members of my family saying how much more dangerous the world had become for them, even though they lived during World War Two, which was far more dangerous than any time afterwards.
I do think that the rate of crime here is over-rated. This is still one of the safest countries in the world, whatever the crime statistics show. All right, it would be naive to think that there is no crime here at all, but the chance of being a victim of crime is minute. The chance of being attacked by strangers is minute compared to child abuse occurring within the family. Not only does over-protectiveness (or even abuse in disguise, as over-protectiveness sometimes is) create over-dependent children, it also creates obesity. Parents afraid to let their children play outside in the streets or woods, where they can run around and get some exercise, are encouraging those children to sit motionless in front of the television and not use up any calories. No wonder we have a problem with obesity!
