a peaceful retreat

The sun glows bright in the cloudless sky
The ambience is peaceful like the heavens above
Birds sing in choruses, the voice of angels
Protecting the throne of fire.
The sky is a pale almost translucent blue
And its hems are tinged with golden rays
My eyes squint at the brightness that shines
This orb as it emanates delight
Summer is finally here even in late spring
Global warming has left a positive mark
Like letters on the English landscape
How happy I am to be bathed by the out-come of a mistake.
The trees bud their leaves early this year
And each branch looks like bronchioles with green flesh
The silver birch which stands firm in the green
Is liberated from winter’s death
Miss Annie below glows in the heat as she treats her garden
And pearl beads run into her eyes from her brow.
The weeds all rooted, filled plastic bags
The earth beneath is seen once more.
She stops to rest and drinks in the sun
Colouring her pale Anglo Saxon skin
The doorbell rings and her daughter returns
With her grandchild she is joyful once again
She swaps her rake for her grandchild’s love
And brings her out into the light
Pretty in pink and striped like a page
God has written his love in her eyes
Her pettitness is to be adored
Mia mixed raced Cameron and British decent
Her hair covered in a floral bonnet bouquet
The sun loves her and everything she is
Is the master’s handy work in simple innocence
Too soon she is gone into the shade of the house
The grace in her eyes etched in my memory reminding me of
My nephews loving eyes when he was that young
The father tends to this glorious scene
Through the power of the sun,
Like that memory it does not fade.
Harmony envelopes this space
Like the hand of God surrounds his children
The voice of nature’s call
Is heard in the singing of birds in the trees
And children laughing as they play in the pocket park
The day is warm and I feel close to my fellows
The gentle heat of the sun strokes my face
With a satisfied grin I sip my cold coffee and write once again.
