Habit Tracking - It's a Thing

I had never heard of the concept of habit-tracking until yet another YouTube algorithm brought it to my attention. Unlike quite a lot on YouTube, this seems like a good idea, as a habit tracked is a habit stuck to, allegedly. Buying habit-tracking paraphernalia from YouTube chancers, not such a good idea. Anyway, I’m old school, who needs an app when you can have an Excel spreadsheet or at long last, a use for that notebook where the pages are printed with grids of dots. Habit tracking the old-fashioned way, colour-coded and everything. Also, have invented a new law, in the manner of ‘Sod’s’. Let us call it ‘Trackster’s Law’; The chances of failing to track anything more than twice, increases exponentially with the fancy-schmansiness of the tracking methodology utilised. I have to refine that obviously, so it will fit on a bumper sticker.
Short story long, on October 1st, made an excel spreadsheet to habit-track ‘no spend’.
Was shocked therefore, when day 1, there was spend.
Well, two of the ‘allowables’ were time-limited – birthdays and Polyfilla. However, it was useful to notice a sort of self-sacrificing punishment vibe creeping in. While it’s never a good idea to go cold turkey, I wasn’t expecting to stress about spend. It’s just an experiment, it’s not going stop any wars or hurricanes.
Would that it could.
It’s just some self-discipline in order to notice habits I didn’t realise I had. Like the new roller-blind in the kitchen becoming part of the furniture because I stopped noticing it.
Tempting emails today, a chance to win an Angie Lewin screenprint if you pre-order her 2025 calendar. What are the chances of winning anyway? Two; slim and fat. Was easily resisted. Gorgeous calendar though. Next, 25% off Cass Art supplies.
Mighty Frugalina, give me strength!

Duff House
I had never heard of the concept of habit-tracking until I read this piece of writing. So I've added your name to my spreadsheet so that I make a habit of reading your stuff.
Your spreadsheet shows that entry to Duff House is minus £10, so if you were to go there four times every day that would be a nice little earner and you'd be able to afford to spend a bit more than £3.13 on groceries. What can you get for £3.13 these days? A cabbage?

reading is my main habit. I
reading is my main habit. I spend too much time reading to track it. But I'm aware of my excess.
