Started painting the indoor stairs to weird wee door. The paint is terrible. It’s a terra cotta-coloured non-slip paint, specifically for stairs, but dries glossy. Not my style. Will use it up as it will give a good strong basecoat, but a November trip to B&Q is on the cards.
Meanwhile, the draught-proofing is rubbish. In the recent high winds, wee door whistled and moaned like a husky sled-team champing at the bit to take off. Were he here, it would make Shackleton himself long to be out on the ice flows again. Not only that, all the dirt and dust, blowing off the newly ploughed hills, seems to be sucked in under the door. It’s a door that thinks it’s a hoover. It’s very demoralising. Have resolved to finish the stair-painting, then add replacement draught-proofing to the November B&Q list. Maybe call a joiner to fit it for me this time.
The step paint also stinks. So, as the sun was shining, escaped the fumes on The Virginia Woolf Walk – i.e. to the lighthouse. It’s not really a lighthouse, more of a lighthut, on the pier, but it’s a lovely high viewpoint for dolphin-spotting. The sea was in a swell mood, the waves splattered and splashed in cathartic fashion.
Later, a beautiful full supermoon, Hunter’s moon, in Aries. It lit the countryside with those twilight mauves ‘The Glasgow Boys’ loved. Occasional flash of crepuscular eyes in the headlights. Ghostly hay bales and Christmas-tree farm machinery tilling furrows. Realised, had never been to Huntly at night before.
‘Endurance’ is a fascinating and moving film. The film-makers used Shackleton’s old movie reel soundtracks and his crew’s diaries and letters to have AI re-create their own words, in their own speaking voices.
Have to admit, it was an amazing use of AI.

I'm on the Cambs/Suffolk border, so the most we usually get is 'quite blowy' - hope it's not too horrible for you (but that the kicking boy gets blown off his bicycle)
