I awake, once again in a fit of reminiscence.
Feeling scraps of paper in my hair
That previously danced beneath furious quills.
Pressed deep against my twisted spine,
Skeletal grimaces leer like young eyes
Cloaked as always in swathes of velvet.
I pad barefoot across the dewy grass
Towards the centre of all meaning.
He matches my pace with a grin
And together we enter the universe
Prepared for future trials
Bracing for pain
United in whalebone and leaves,
We surrender to the music.
And wait, motionless, for a dusky breeze
That smiles with us in this lonely stretch of sky.
