Things That Don’t Matter 2: The X Factor

I’m sitting here, listening to the great Amy Winehouse. What a rare talent she is, a classic voice that sings beautifully crafted pop songs. Her personal issues don’t mean a jot to me, when she can make music like this.
I was wondering. If Amy had entered the ‘X Factor’, what would have happened? Not much methinks. I doubt if she would have made it past the holding area. This is because there is a quality and individualist embargo in the world of Simon Cowell and chums.
I should not let it bother me, but it does. This is because the majority of the programmes massive audience may think that this is all there is. That this is the way creativity works. It’s almost as if punk never happened. Come on; tell me, has any X Factor or Pop Idol winner gone on to have a degree of longevity? Don’t mention Will Young to me either. We all know that he’ll end up as a children’s TV presenter or pantomime prince. In fact, we are monitoring his career very carefully here at Millfield Towers, It will be Cinderella next year, and we need a Buttons. The ‘Yummy Mummies’ of Enfield will drop their babies for him in their thousands. Watch this space.
The X Factor. Does it matter? Not really. Amy does though.
