Elusive Woodland Birds

Soggy wood,
early autumn bounty:
seeds and insects, spiders’ webs,
mixed tall tree tangle,
whistling tweets surround up high,
social gathering;
necks craned, leaves shift
( – one drops slowly revolving down),
tiny flitting silhouettes,
gone, or hide before
binoculars can focus:
frustrating
– one seen
– goldcrest.

Hi Rhiannon, your poem is
Hi Rhiannon, your poem is such a beautiful and typical example of the season. I have been clearing the garden and all the things you describe in this poem fit so well with what I've seen. Really enjoyed and thank you for sharing. Jenny.

Hi Rhiannon.
Hi Rhiannon.
Gold finches are my favourites. It is frustrating when you are trying to identify the birds you can see by all other evidence but themselves, are hidden up in the foliage. I loved your poem - it captures the atmosphere of early autumn so beautifully. Lovely poem!

Hi Rhiannon
I liked the picture you paint of the birds having a social gathering.
