Being King

Remembering an event at a 1950 Kanasuta Lake
Cub Camp in northern Quebec, my home province.
A favourite game was King-of-the-Hill.
Being King
of the hill meant
a lot to a ten-year-old
shoving others
back as they approached
and holding your own as they
attacked from all directions.
Lee gets pushed aside
then Ricky and now
I’m in trouble as Kenny
my best bud grabs an arm
and swings me flying
to the bottom--
my turn to receive the prize
of a fallen King.

Kids learning the
Kids learning the difficulties of being 'king'!
Not a comfortable job if all out to remove you. Actually good leadership is not so much an honour as exceedingly hard work I would think! Rhiannon
