The Merlin Hawk
observes from her fence post
after a country jaunt.
Through layers of mist past
sleeping sheep
above a few mules
she dived against the wind
exhausted wings drawing her
to afternoon chirps.
Red Polls
Sparrows
Finches
and tattoos from a Hairy
Woodpecker capture
her attention
a chance for a snack
presents itself
then decides not now and
without fanfare nor
nasty intentions flies off
to other uncharted spaces.
