A Sparrow

A Sparrow

invaded my backyard space

set aside for a

favourite – the blue jay

resplendent with

his Roman-shaped head

beak as a sword and

flashy

futuristic white

stripes across his feathers.

He’s patient though

precious blue one

of mine-

allows the

bowl of black seed

to have a new suitor

and the smaller

bird gets a morning treat

then without

any further fanfare

the larger bird swooped

sparrow aside to

claim the rest as his.
