Dingle Dell

I took a stroll through Dingle Dell
A little wood that I knew well
The trees were tall and flowers wild
I used to play there as a child
It was just as I remember
With leaves of green in late September
The branches that we used for swings
Or sit on logs while the Robin sings
Today I thought I heard a bell
From where it came I couldn’t tell
I looked around and there she stood
A tiny figure beneath a hood.
I asked if she had been there long
The answer came within a song
With a voice so sweet and full of joy
I watched you when you were a boy.
You stood and looked up through the trees
At birds and tiny bumble bees,
But way up in the canopy
There was no chance that you’d see me
Now you’re back and years have flown
I am still small but you have grown
A tiny shape beneath a cloak
Elorien born of Elven folk
Her beauty was beyond compare
With silky smooth and golden hair
I wished that I could meet her folk
My thoughts she read and softly spoke
Then take my hand and close your eyes
We have to reach up to the skies
I’ve waited many years to share
My life with someone who would care
I never felt us leave the ground
I felt her hand but heard no sound
Then all around the sound of joy
Welcome home at last Elfroy
