The visit

Shutters creak open across the coast,
petals in the spring sunshine
revealing lives that exist only for months.
While sun makes long shadows
that cast like out-stretched hands;
people scuttle, revived beneath blue skies.
Rain showers wash away the debris
of the winter, cleaning pathways
for the visit. We descend.
Mint green, deep blue, pink,
reflecting across white surfaces,
crystals of sand scattered across tiles.
Green hills turn to starry night,
as lights go on in houses with views.
Clear water cut by boats finding new homes.

I really enjoyed this poem,
I really enjoyed this poem, full of some wonderful details like:
While sun makes long shadows
that cast like out-stretched hands;
people scuttle, revived beneath blue skies.
Just perfect
Jenny.

This made me think of
This made me think of holidaymakers being another kind of tide. "Lives that exist only for months" is great. Lights do go on in houses without views too, where the locals live all year round :0)

Hey Fab! The island becomes
Hey Fab! The island becomes 'open for business' after Easter. Great for the islanders who have lasted out the winter in their own ways. Great for the holiday people too. A good overview of what happens, Sam.
