Essay: On Cuban-American Relations

Considering that the current Presidential administration has little use for political correctness, let's make use of that reality, and just talk turkey about Cuba. The nation of Cuba was a relatively primitive society caught between two titanic super-powers duking it out with every weapon of brute force, every weapon of spy-craft, psychology and sophistry...
The Cuban people likely erred in choosing communism as their national philosophy but they weren't properly prepared for a more advanced decision: having endured decades of banana republic shenanigans and literal(American) Mafia rule under Batista... Out of such corruption and ugliness comes the infernal fire of revolution. I don't say that revolutions are negative and my biography wouldn't support such a belief: but for a man or for a nation, there's a horrible price to pay.
During the height of the Cold War, we were threatened by Cuba's nuclear ambitions and communistic social order, and we hit them with nearly everything short of nuclear bombs. We even used 'magical' technology to strip the rain from their clouds to harm their crops(as the intelligence community publicly 'admits.') They stood with their Soviet masters and endured invasions, assasination attempts, and the fear of being hit with nuclear weapons... They did so largely for their understanding of what was good and noble: perhaps misguided, but certainly in a sense sincere.
And then came the collapse of the Soviet Union. Having become professional Russian proxies and symbols, the Cubans were thrown upon their own ravaged resources. Being a good and resourceful people, they hacked and tinkered together a living: harvesting sugar cane and renting beaches to European tourists... but they lived under the shadow of American enmity all due to a Cold War in which they were never a main contender, never an equal force.
It's time to have mercy on the Cuban people and let them be just another island nation. If they cling to archaic communistic customs: what does it matter? Communism is dead... in reality and in the eyes of my generation. Conservatives familiar with the Sanders movement may question this. We didn't see Sanders as a true socialist, and he now prefers to identify as a Democrat. All who embrace socialism learn the lesson: During that movement, my essays made very clear that I wasn't a socialist but a believer in public charity... humbly seeking the consent of the wealthy and powerful.
Getting back to Cuba: the vast majority of the western and industrialized world has normalized relations with them. It was my proudest moment to have President Obama take my advice and open relations with the nation of Cuba. U.S. Companies have jumped on the opportunity and have made investments.
I value President Trump and seek to be of service to him: even while the majority of the press and the silicon world in which I live in revile both him (and myself for it.) I beseech the President: why must we further punish this simple island nation for the sins of the Cold War?
More broadly: why, when Russia has symbolically and substantively abandoned Communism: must we force our citizens to live under nuclear anxiety, to continue this Cold War? The Youth, such as Macron, are meeting with our former enemies: bearing not swords and insults, but ideas and olive branches. This is how democracy is spread!
I implore President Trump: for the sake of democracy, for the sake for charity, and for the sake of capitalism: to continue normalizing relations with the nation of Cuba.
