Dear President-elect Donald J. Trump,
As you transition from your victorious business career into the Presidency, you will of course be receiving a great plethora of advice from experienced politicos and from citizens who haven't worked in Washington. To accurately re-introduce myself, I'm something of a hybrid of these two... During and following my prominent role in the Sanders movement, much of my advice was taken by the White House, by the Supreme and other courts, and to a lesser extent by both aisles of Congress. This was an honor... but I mention it only in giving my qualifications.
More germanely here, I fervently hope, is the advice I'd like to give and the small public service it might be of. Now, many of the American people are really hoping that we can end the many long years of congestive Congressional gridlock... and see an administration of action, an era of real change and significant legislation!
I'm very fond of many of your ideas such as an Americans first policy, re-asserting our borders, and withdrawing from or re-making highly disadvantageous trade deals such as N.A.F.T.A..... the reasoning being that many nations, like Mexico and China, don't have our human rights and environmental standards, and until these issues are worked out... we need to control our trade with them for the sake of our jobs and our quality of life.
I'll also make so bold as to agree with your 'crazy' notion that it wouldn't be so bad for Russia and the U.S.A. to have slightly warmer relations; The rivalry will not entirely dissipate perhaps unfortunately, but there can be a peaceful state between we two nuclear and economic juggernauts. As for the Crimea, before your election this was a dangerous thing to say, but I'm only echoing the President's sentiments in stating that it may very well be a rational part of Russia, seeing as so much of Russia's cultural canon was created there: from art to literature to music etc..
Now many Americans feel forgotten and neglected by the great powers of the land and historically speaking, one way of dealing with this was the 'homestead acts'... in which frontier land was simply given to citizens of all walks of life... seeing as this great nation is so vast, and the land belongs in some sense to the citizens. Of course much public land should be retained and/or leased out as before. If land were given to successful businesses at the same time as to the common people, perhaps such an act could pass with bi-partisan support.
Another project I've advocated for, on which work has already begun, is the restoration and expansion of Amtrak... which has the advantage of giving people the jobs they sought from you, and also gives the elderly and the disabled a way to traverse this great and wide nation... that doesn't involve the travails and troubles of flying. It's also good for the tourism industry, as it's very enjoyable to sit in the window car and see the American landscape pass by in all its diverse glory.
I hope that your Presidency will give us the best and most efficient government, but not in all respects the least government... as from infra-structure to Mars pre-colonization, many positive things could be done. Why should a capable leader rush to slash his own department?
With that, being one of many offering you advice, I'll respect your time and conclude. Congratulations on your elect to the highest office in the land President-elect Donald J Trump!
