Victory
somnambulant soldiers march for days on end
surly faced and straight laced, sleepless and strong
against the dreary backdrop of dusty sky
red bombs burst a lurid interruption to the dull
a savage desert hides inhuman enemies to maul their tightrope flesh
a million men left to languish under the high noon sun
a fear, a boredom, a thirst, impossible to quell or quench
there is no victory here
