My Speckled Hen

I bought a happy speckled hen
Just ‘cause I love eggs,
She had ruffled feathers on her back,
And these knobbly looking legs.
She had funny little beady eyes
And extremely odd hens feet,
I didn’t mind the way she looked
I though my hen was neat.
The chap I bought my chicken from
Promised eggs each day.
She’s a beauty he assured me,
All she does is lay.
So I placed my happy speckled hen
In the hen house that I’d made.
And dreamt that night in pure delight
Of the eggs that she'd have laid.
Next morning when I saw my hen
With her knobbly looking legs.
She was standing in the hen house
And was ankle deep in eggs.
I couldn’t quite believe the sight
Laid out before my eyes.
Even my old speckled hen
Was looking quite surprised.
She’d laid me fifty-seven eggs
I gently scrambled four.
Next day my marvellous speckled hen
Had laid me even more.
So I started up a business,
And planned to do it right.
I sold the eggs she laid and made
A fortune overnight.
We saved enough to live it up,
My feathered friend and me.
So I bought my special speckled hen
A hen house by the sea.
