Mommy's Shoes

Mommy’s Shoes
I was five, or four,
Sneaking in
to open the cupboard door.
Taking out the elegant heels,
Sneaking them on with ease.
My feet filling the space that was home to your toes.
Klomp, klomp, klomp,
I was a ‘grown up’,
Just like you.
That was all it took,
Just wear mommy’s shoes.
I was fifteen, or fourteen,
Now borrowing your shoes.
Matching an outfit for a dance,
Or casually strolling the mall.
Moving,
Missioning to my own tune.
Passing by with a:
“Thanks for your shoes.”
Twenty-four, twenty-five,
My own cupboard,
My own shoes.
“Grown up”.
Klomp, klomp, klomp,
Illusions shattered.
There was more going on in your shoes
Than pretending
and dancing
ever prepared me for.

Interesting memories, Shannan
Interesting memories, Shannan, combining with need for Mums to prepare their kids for life with adult feet with its various layers of complexity! Rhiannon
[by the way, isnt this meant to be on the Poetry Monthly challenge rather than the latest Ispiration Point. The former can be put under the 'Poetry Monthly' section rather than under 'Poem'.]

The weekly Inspiration Point
The weekly Inspiration Point is stated in the section 'Inspiration Point' under 'Read' on the right. There is another Inspiration Point section under 'Genre' under 'Type of Tale' but it doesn't give the weekly suggestion just the submissions (you may have to click 'New' to get the 'Genre's to show up anyway.
The Poetry Monthly submissions are shown under 'Type of Tale' also, but the monthly suggestion is only given on the 'Poetry Monthly' blog, under New Blog Posts on the right.
Both the link for the latest Inspiration Point, and the Poetry Monthly cues can be found on the Home Page also. I
I hope that's some help!! Rhiannon

Simple
ways to say complicated things: the essence of some kinds of poetry. Very thought provoking and deftly done.
