Grandson Poem

Hello, little fellow
You’re a baby still
A beauty too
But all babies are
And I’m biased
I think about your future
What’s in store
Wish I had some control
Over it
When I see how little
Control I do have
At least you live
In a great country
Still one of the best, I think
You have a devoted
Mom and dad
There are very good schools
And colleges for you to attend
Good teachers still
There are many churches
In your city peopled
With good hearts and souls
Those two words are
Important. To me, anyway
Wish I could see you grow
Every day but I can’t
But I can, of course, see you
Every now and then…
You see, when you’re all
Grown and can truly see,
Can reason, I suspect you won’t
See me. I’ll be elsewhere
But not unhappy
Maybe I’ll be watching you
Like in the song
Who knows? God knows
I love you
Just the way you are
And I’d like always to protect you
Of course I can’t, but He can
I hope you’ll believe on Him
When you’re able
And that your grand life will be,
My little fellow,
Simply everlasting.
