Swear I can see
right through
your flickering
eyelid...
translucent
as a butterfly’s wings,
stutters – soft
on my cheek
where falls
your baby breath;
effervescent
with escape
as you stretch,
little knowing,
nor caring
your birth
heralds its death...
its spirit flown,
but to where...
the small, white moth
gone to dust
on the floor now,
nor from whence
yours came...
maybe one
and the same
you and the moth...
white as the froth
of milk on your lip
like surf fringes
the crinkly tip
of a shell on the shore;
so small – but so
perfectly formed.

It's beautiful. I like the way you are straight in with 'swear I...' not 'I swear..' It makes it asif you are talking to her, up close, noone else listening.

This is such a moving poem Tina...I can feel the tears welling up as I write this comment. So spiritual and sad, but beautifully written and full of love.
Thank you so much for sharing.
Jenny.

Hello Tina,
Yes, 'small but perfectly formed' is how I would describe y our poem. Lovely.
