Part Seven of the Season's Mystery.
Bridgette had passed out a figure lying next to her son no longer aware of what was going on, unable to hear the calls of her child or the protests of him trying to shake her awake. It wasn't because he was afraid, far from it, Danny wanted his mum to glimpse his encounter as he became hypnotized by the materialization of what he was seeing.
In the darkness of the room the black shadow had moved closer to the boy until it loomed over him and his mum, it then began changing shape and color, till it became some kind of animal that Danny had never seen before. Long claws grew from thick, leathery fingers reaching out to smooth Danny's hair. The head and face of the creature altered too becoming life like. Saliva dribbled from its mouth that was full of long sharp teeth that would scare most, but Danny didn't flinch he just stared in wonder.
The beast aware that the boy showed no sign of distress appeared to calm down. His bulging eyes searched the child's giving the impression of trying to communicate.
As if by some miracle Danny understood, as the creature's features contorted with sadness building a rapport with the boy, it was as if their two minds were interconnected as the beast relayed the reason it was there.
Danny nodded that he understood which bought a tear to the beasts eye and rolled down its hairy face. There was a kinship between the two, a bond that only they understood.
At that moment Danny's mother began to come around, she moaned unsure of where she was at first. The creature then released the boy from his trance and slipped back into the darkness, vanishing from sight till all that was left was the boy and his mother.
Bridgette became aware and remembered the dark shadowy figure. She grabbed her son in fear. “Oh Danny! Thank god you're okay. I must have passed out.”
The door slid open again creaking on it's hinges, daylight once again appeared illuminating the darkness. “It's okay Mama!” Danny pointed to the boulders further back in the space. Standing up escaping his mother's clutches, he wandered over to the mound of boulders. “Baby!” He announced in his young three year old tone.
Bridgette had no idea what Danny was on about, but the boy sat down next to the pile and pointed again, regarding the situation. “Mama shift stones – Danny can't.”
Whatever was lurking under the large pile of boulders Bridget was curious to know, but had no intention of lifting them till her husband returned.
The girls were still out while they'd been trapped. Early afternoon had drifted into late afternoon. Bridgette had no idea how long they'd been in the eerie room but now she was thankful to be leaving. Picking up her son not daring to put him down for fear of what was still lurking, she had to admit that the air was clearer and not so claustrophobic.
Grabbing the torch Bridgette left the room. Once in the hallway she closed the door and went back into the kitchen where everything was as she'd left it. Danny grinned casting a happier moment to the whole situation.
“Cheer up Mama – Daddy will be home soon, then he'll help with stones.” The child struggled to break free not understanding why his Mother was being so over protective, this was something new to him and it left the boy confused.
Bridgette decided not to push her son for anymore information as to what he'd seen while she was out cold, but the woman shivered at the thought her imagination running wild. She'd always believed in the supernatural, but had never seen or heard anything, never wishing to, the whole scenario made her shudder.
After a much needed cup of tea to calm herself down, Mum carried on with preparing the evening meal, her mind still on that room and the boulders, while Danny went happily back to his coloring.
Darkness fell early as the girls flung open the front door. Once inside they kicked off their boots and ran into the kitchen complaining of starving.
Mum listened while the sisters told her all about the den they'd found, with Rachel far more excited than Catherine. “It'll make an amazing place to camp out in the Summer – won't it Sis?” Rachel hadn't been this excited since she'd been hiking with Tom her older brother. “Can't wait to show Gina when she comes to stay.”
Catherine smiled and yawned, licking her lips at the aroma of cooking, eager for some food.
“Tom will love it here, won't he Mum?” Smiled Rachel.
Bridgette beamed at her daughter, she missed her older son like mad. “Yes I'm sure he will Rachel.”
“Can't wait for Christmas when he comes home. We can have a huge tree with all the trimmings, it'll be magical.” Catherine missed her brother too. She thought life would be so much more easier with him there.
“You two girls go and wash, your father will be home soon then we can eat.” This was to be their first proper meal in their new home, but Bridgette was desperate for Kenneth to return so she could tell him about their son's ordeal and what they should do about the boulders.

Hi again Jenny
Hi again Jenny
I'm glad the monster shape was friendly to the boy, and they escaped unharmed.
