While the others were sleeping, Addie and Dawson had been called up to see Minister Lewington to explain their findings, before they could go and see their families. Upon their arrival the two men Knocked at his door, a gruff voice spoke from the other side. “Come!” The two men gazed at each other wondering what kind of mood he was in. Lewington sounded annoyed, Addie and Dawson feared they were in trouble and reluctantly entered.
“So! Captain! And Dawson – you've returned? I hear you've bought some guests back with you.”
With his hands held behind his back and fingers crossed Addie replied, “Yes Sir!” Suspecting the Minister wasn't exactly too happy at his decision. “I know we didn't inform you first Sir, only there wasn't any time to waste, so I went with my gut feeling.
“I wonder Captain! If you are aware that I'm finding it hard not to loose my temper at this moment in time.” The Minister looked at Addie waiting for a reply. “WELL! SPEAK UP?”
Addie produced the crystal he'd discovered in his backpack, and placed it on the Minister's desk. “I just have to say – there were some good reasons why we felt the need to take charge of the situation without informing you. Firstly: there wasn't any time to make contact. Secondly: we bought children back with us, they were in danger and suffering greatly at the hands of an evil man named Gregor. Thirdly: we have with us a Chosen One who is a healer, he came with his father who's name is Brad. They have an owl that strangely enough led us to safety, when we were trapped in some mysterious tunnels on the new world. The boy doesn't realise his true potential at the moment – but I mean to tell him once he's rested. He's a young lad by the name of Simon, and holds a crystal similar to this one.” Addie pointed to the crystal on the desk. “It has special powers, but I don't know where it came from, or how to tap in to its force, I only know it appeared in my backpack.”
“So! Captain – where did your journey take you? You must have some sort of idea where it came from.”
“I'm sorry Sir! It's all a complete blank. A part of my journey that has left me mystified.”
The Minister gazed at Dawson, hoping he'd have some sort of explanation. “Well! Dawson – what about you? Can you explain any of this to me?” He sat back in his chair, hands together as if in prayer.
Dawson felt a kind of relief that he'd been out of it most of the time, at least he wouldn't have to lie, or make up a story. “Sorry Sir! I have no idea at all – I spent most of my time in a cell where I was kept a prisoner. Then I was taken on a ship over to a place called Wild Whistling Isle, where I was thrown in a pit in their catacombs, it was all a very scary experience which I hope never to repeat, I thought at one point I was going to die had it not been for some young friends who came to my rescue.”
“Okay!” Replied the Minister. “I can understand why you were in such a hurry to get away, it must have been terrifying for you?”
“Yes Sir! Very terrifying!” Replied Dawson.
“Well! You're back now safe and sound, so I suggest you go see your families, who I'm sure are desperate to see you.” The Minister stood up. “Before you go – I'd just like to say it's good to have you both back. I'd like to speak to this boy Simon in the morning. If he's who you say he is, I think we should present him with the Chosen Ones Scroll of knowledge. I'm most interested to meet him.”
“I think that's a perfect idea!” Declared Addie. “I have a feeling that the boy will want to abide by those commandments, he doesn't seem to have any fear of what he's been through and I feel this is his calling. I'm sure that many will follow him and bring light once more to their earth.”
“That's settled then, bring him to my office in the morning. The others will need to be re-programmed before setting foot back on their own world though – hope you have set up the rooms on board the ship ready for clearing their memory of their time here?”
“I'll be on it first thing in the morning Sir.” Replied Addie, grateful that the Minister understood his decision. He picked up the crystal and placed it in his pocket. “I'll take this to the lab for analysis, hopefully we'll find out what kind of power it holds and how to tap into it.”
“Good! Good!” The Minister had listened to Addie and thought he seemed to have the matter under control, but he really needed to make his own decision, as to whether he trusted sending Simon back with knowledge of their world. He would sleep on it and decide upon meeting the boy for himself. “Oh yes! I almost forgot!” He called Addie back just in time. “I'd like you to take your son with you when you return to the New World. Luke passed his flying test – though don't tell him I told you, I expect he'll want to let you know himself.”
Addie grinned at Dawson, then looked at the Minister. “Well – well! So my son's becoming a pilot; good for him, I say.”
“Too right – he deserves it!” Replied Dawson.
