What's Not Written

How can I prepare to
welcome new verses
when lapse of memory
chases days and nights;
voices floating;
emotions longing
to be carried in flight,
fluttering in shadows –
but not lingering too long,
impressing with
such poetic
lyrics; not hurrying
for cover,
passage granted
through brook and
dale; where charisma
stirs a thrilling spell,
roving sympathetic
blend melodious;
transient expression
blossoming with
clarity –
or sadly consigned to
obscurity, camouflaged
in haze unclear; like a
left behind dream
relinquished.
Too late for remorse
when phrasing escapes
the mind; beyond infinity,
in an endless twirl of lost
words of expression.
Inspired by waking up
in the middle of the night
and sadly not writing down
an idea for a poem straight away.

I guess we all get that kind
I guess we all get that kind of forgetfulness, Jenny. It's the other kind that's the real worry.

Nothing worse than losing a dream you want to remember. You have done a fine creative job in producing a poem based on something so elusive. Nicely done, Jenny :)

Creative flow accompanied by
Creative flow accompanied by drowsiness and your ideas fold away into layers of dream clouds. Bizarrely I sometimes have amazing songs playing in my dreams but I don't write music and have no way of recording them, I don't really know where they come from, I don't think it's me.
Transient expression blossoming with clarity - creative writing expressed.

you really give the
you really give the impression of poems flying about all over the place, and you as the poet being able to catch them :0) But this one you have written must be at least as lovely as the one that got away, I imagine it landing on your head, and you not noticing :0) And these are the shimmering words it gave you

Wow! I can't begin to imagine
Wow! I can't begin to imagine what would have conspired if you had written down your ideals straight away. True artistry inspires those words. Well, done!

You may never know/
There's a special gift that a poet has. You have. And you may never know the many lives you've touched with your gift. And I'm honored to have tasted the fruits of your labor. Again Well Done! Jenny.

U are welcome.
I've been reading your writing for years now and it's like wine or age. It grows with elegance and grace.

That's such a shame Jenny,
That's such a shame Jenny, although not entirely as it inspired this lovely poem. Many people keep a notebook on their bedside table for just such a moment. Perhaps you should too?

In a way I am rather pleased that your dreams and poem escaped you when you woke up because what you have produced is quite beautiful.

Oh Jenny! This is so true for
Oh Jenny! This is so true for me as well. How many times have I had a line or phrase come to me in the night, then thinking I'll write it down in the morning, but then morning comes and the words have melted. The answer is to get up and write it down staright away. And we all know about the man from Porlock.
Anyway, if that experience can create such a poem as this - it can't be all bad.

I recently watched a series
I recently watched a series on Netflix called 'The Fall' where a senior police detective (Gillian Anderson of X Files fame) trains herself to keep a dream diary that she makes entries in whenever she wakes up in the middle of the night. I thought this was a great idea as I have the same problems as you Jenny. So many good ideas (probably) lost for the want of a better memory or a pencil and paper. Part of my trouble is that this happens to me during the day too.
The good thing about the problem is that it inspired you to write this poem. Well done!
