A poem to my 18 year old self

Pretty girl don't cry
The mirror is not your friend
Neither are the boys that stroke your ego every Saturday night
Hoping to win the prize you so willingly submit.
Baby girl, do not fear
You will be stronger one day
You will learn to say no, to remain firm against the people
Who wish to see you fail
You will refrain from putting yourself on a pedestal
Then berating yourself when you fall from such dizzying heights
You are beautiful
You dont need to place your value on worthless scales
On the size of your jeans, or the reflection you hate to see.
Sweet girl believe it,
You are so much more than what you feel you are
Your sad eyes cloud the prettiest face
Your insecurity batters all the worth that tries to surface
From a woman that cries out to the world
Love me for who I am !!
So just believe me
You are all that you need to be , and so much more besides.
I love you.

It's a shame it takes so long
It's a shame it takes so long to realise these things sometimes. But then again learning makes us stronger, eh.
