Professor Circumcision (a cerebral comedy)

Oh academia is so peculiar!
For some it’s the perfect fix
For others its a box of tricks
Those who claim to grasp it
Like to remind those who don’t
And so the separation begins
The ‘less intelligent’ lose
The most pretentious wins
And still the world remains the same
Cleverness is subject to change
Only when the bright ones get it wrong
Some of the smartest folk in the world
Are bonafide eccentrics
With a taste for eclectics
A veritable potpourri
Some distance away, from you and me
Oh Cerebral people
With brains up in the sky
Too busy to notice they never cry
Thinking never gets them down
Reality is for the clowns
Who feel the pain of life
Often walking across a knife
With feet tired and weary
Whilst a boffin creates a theory
To explain that having a small brain
Condemns one to the gutter and the drain
Whilst us small people think the least
The highbrows enjoy the feast
We are slaves to the intellectuals
Who are the least effectual.
But what do I know?

Great poem, and brilliant
Great poem, and brilliant last line pun.
My fella is an intellectual. He answers 85% of the questions on University Challenge correctly. I don't even understand the questions, and might hit a lucky strike and get one correct every five episodes, but only if it's regarding reptiles, and isn't in Latin.
I'm guessing you're US, Jack, so do you get University Challenge. I swear they are aliens. No 18-year-old human being can hold that much knowlege, and they all have intellecutal hair styles and wear chunky knits. I tell you, Aliens, a whole show of them. They come down from Mars every Thursday and stay for the weekend.
Enjoyed the read, thank you.
