Shroud

The wind in full sway I thought the giant grey
Cloud, looked like a shroud
Covering the face of cold dead day
The rain hid under cover waiting to strike
There was little about this day, to like
I closed my eyes to wish myself away
Only to open them and see what I saw
Yesterday, a world inviting decay
I thought maybe this is nature’s law
It’s hard to find an unpainted smile
When our existence is on trial
And all our eyes stare at the floor
Work till we drop eat sleep and shop
Deaf, to the birds singing in trees
Blind to the greed of those at the top
Who tear our hope and lives apart
Winter thrives in the coldest heart
Those that start war never want to stop
Newspaper pages fly across the street
Maybe in rage at falling sales
And their deception of trick or treat
Only the diehards believe the lies
Living life a long distance from wise
Here comes The Sun accept your defeat
The wind in full sway I thought the giant grey
Cloud, looked like a shroud covering the face
Of a cold dead day.
