BETWEEN A FLAT-LINE AND A BLEEP.
sneak
I'm only here for the nurses.
Your illness suits me fine.
The heady scent of cleanliness -
competing with my grime.
I'm happy that you're comatose.
I can talk about myself.
I've cigarettes and alcohol -
to toast your ailing health.
I can only stay a moment.
I have parties to attend.
I'm looking after Emily,
your beautiful girlfriend.
She sends you her best wishes -
from beyond my double bed.
She couldn't make the journey -
as she has a 'thumpin' head.
Too many Southern Comforts.
Too many wasted nights.
Too much information -
under harsh fluorescent lights?
A flickering reaction.
I should have called a nurse.
Starving you of oxygen -
has only made things worse.
The staff have been fantastic.
They say I'm not to blame.
Panicking is common -
when you're under so much strain.
I'll visit when I'm passing.
It's the least that I can do.
My time is very precious,
but so my friend are you.
I need to keep you balanced -
between a flat-line and a bleep.
My sympathies extended,
I've so much love to reap.
I'm caring for your fantasy.
She'll make a perfect wife.
Committed to your shadow.
I'm hijacking your life.
