Forever shy in awe.
sneak
Summer signalled solitude,
as she let go of the past.
Adulthood was beckoning.
Nothing good can last.
She faked a kamikaze smile,
but deep inside she knew.
Her innocence was losing -
to a dedicated few.
Flourishing before their eyes,
she tried so hard to hide.
The onset of perfection -
welled slowly from inside.
Harsh remarks behind her back -
from 'friends' who can't compete.
The attentions of so many men -
on any given street.
Just one glance, a furtive smile -
a touch and nothing more.
A storm released in seconds.
Forever shy in awe.
Affection that she hoped to lose.
Lamenting innocence.
She walked in shadow sympathy,
her head bowed in defence.
Drifting on secluded night,
like a secret free to roam.
So many hearts unbroken.
So adored, yet so alone.
