I Mirror your reflection.
This black and white decay.
The 'happy ever after'
that I almost threw away.
A photographic image -
that time would frame in dust.
Eyes that touted innocence,
would soon display mistrust.
As pretty as a picture.
Picture perfect you.
A record of your beauty.
The girl we never knew.
The life you held before us.
How often we forget.
I stole your youthful vigour -
in a summer of regret.
I'd steal another eighteen -
before I'd realise,
I was the cause of anguish -
reflected in your eyes.
The son you always wanted.
I wasn't meant to be.
Delusions of a nothing.
Your eyes would see through me.
My present imperfections.
I never took the blame.
A stranger in a photo -
who wouldn't speak my name.
