Moving

It is time for the big goodbye.
I have dreaded it; put it to the back of my mind.
I have walked every room, several times,
leaving yours until last.
I have searched every inch,
of every floorboard, tile and wall, finding
a memory, clinging like a mollusc,
to a rock, on each one.
I stand, in the place your chair resided,
where you sat to tell me stories, that excited or calmed,
depending, which mood, you read in my eyes;
you knew, better than I.
I scan the floor, seeking
the shadows of long dried tears, that bore elements of joy
or sadness, for everything was shared here;
you were my confessor!
I still talk to you now
and when the world seemed, as though to turn in anger on me,
I would come and sit in your chair and speak;
telling you of my fears.
Your philosophy was,
‘remember the past, look to the future, live in the now!’
Today – now - I am remembering you;
that alone, gives me strength.
It is time now, too leave;
this sanctuary, is no longer ours to dominate.
New faces, new secrets, will be shared here
and I hope, as much love.
