Venturing out to look at the rain and the storm, very surprised I saw in wonder a ribbon just slightly vague through the ominous grey sky.
Very unusual quite clear in the storm and cloud it all was scary I was astonished. Lightning flashes also inside bright, cutting through it nearing loud thunderbolts all closer. Bright flashes booming thunder and now raining hard.
In the east in the rain itself in awe the rainbow majestic was complete side to side in all it's colours and stayed that way for long. It must have been there before the rain started already and endured. Unexpected truly amazing in the rain I looked in wonder at this fascinating thunder storm it felt like it was part of me, the thunderstorm and the rainbow which stood defiant.
Standing as if planted and like heaven's gates, I saw with increasing fright the lightning flashing flickering brightly close by and nearer, the white light jagged through the rainbow the storm almost terrifying. Proud and victorious the rainbow stood unmoving thus only fading into evening.

They've got a large shade for cars there, the little kiddies next door really enjoyed it outside in this weather pointing to the sky with little fingers excitedly while the mother explained what it was and the colours, what a wonderful world!

I thought of what the meaning could be of all of this and was rather puzzled. Was this writing fitting for the circumstances?
First I thought it might be out of place writing about a rainbow in the dark and troubled times we live in and about such a seemingly happy and frivolous thing, even silly, but then thinking of the story as symbolic and as interpreted I realised now this is really actually very apt to these dismal dire days.
I felt heartened and of revived spirit I realised the stories to tell are uplifting and encouraging and indeed very appropriate and that hope will prevail and triumph. I myself have not seen anything like this usually it appears after the storm and not like that. It was incredible, spectacular.

What an interesting scene,
What an interesting scene, and I think it is good to tell us of it.
The rainbow was always meant to be an encouraging sign to trust through difficulties and the wrong still in the world, wasn't it? I gather it is light through the rain that is falling somewhere, but not necessarily where we are. Means more than the saying 'every cloud has a silver lining', as it was God's word that he is in control, and will preserve all until he comes again. So we wait for him – he came with the flood, but soon he comes to gather his children! Rhiannon

Sounds like a stunning sight.
Sounds like a stunning sight. I wonder if rainbows and lightening are different in Pretoria? Paul

Tom I found this a totally
Tom I found this a totally involving piece of writing, it was immediate, beautiful, powerful. Please never ever wonder whether something which effects you so deeply should be written about.
What you describe is very different from the rainbows here. On the West of Scotland there is water of some kind in the air, most of the year, so lots of rainbows. Even sometimes fog bows which are not so impressive, but strange. Once when we were on the mainland in a car driving along the Clyde Estuary, there were so many rainbows, one after another, it was like the arches of a viaduct. I am not sure if that was because we were moving the same speed and direction as the cloud or sun breaking through?
I do not remember any rainbow storm as intense as yours. I enjoyed reading about it very much
