Margazhi’s passed and Thai is here;
Harvest’s over, the larder’s full.
Now is time to thank rain and sun
And the ploughing beast.
In the kitchen, the charcoal fire
Sweetens the air with flame-scorched milk.
May your Pongga rise and brim over
And scarcity and want shun you forever.
