And the Dead Remains Silent

The night was cold and dark
They came as ghosts from nowhere
At first they hid their faces with masks
But later no disguise was used
Screams and laments tear the night
darkness cloaked deeds that feared light
Evil walked freely in the land
and the dead did not speak
The mouths were forbidden to talk
Those who heard were made deaf
Those who saw were blindfolded
and still the dead did not speak
The land bled sweat and tears
Father and mother sat in sack and ashes
Family ties were crudely broken
and yet the dead did not speak
Years of pain and suffering for the innocent
Silence decended over the whole land
Forgotten the difference in field and graveyard
and still the dead did not speak
Awake witness of this injustice
Empty the mortuariums and the graves
Ignore the commands to be silent
Listen, then speak for the screaming dead.
