How can he survive in this land
when a half a man is not allowed
to inherit from his fathers hand?
Let us go to Paris where he can
take his rightful place as nobleman
A virtuoso with the rapier
with the bow melting the marrow
in your bones, the violin sings
and cries of love yet unknown,
untested yet unimaginably familiar;
Genius, that even Mozart in admiration
as equal or superior acknowledged,
yet now unknown except in special circles.
Lover of violin and woman
Composer of beauty unsurpassed
a hero of revolution, yet reviled
Le Chevalier est noir
He died alone and poor
