An Autumn Alphabet

AUTUMN is
AMA-

(a BRIGHTLY BLAZING
CARNIVAL of CHANGING COLOURS.

DROPPING DROWSILY DOWN
EVERYWHERE;
FLAMING FOLIAGE FALLING;
GARDENS GROWING GOLDEN.

It's HARVEST time
when trees HEAVE
with apples
and HALLOWEEN;
a HAPPY HOLIDAY,
ILLUMINATED
by
JACK O’ LANTERNS
and
JOVIAL KIDS
LAUGHING;
LITTLE MONSTERS
MASQUERADING.

It’s the MOONLIT NIGHT’s
of OCTOBER;
PRETTY,
PEACEFUL and QUIET.

It’s RED ROWAN berries RIPENING
for ROBIN RED breasts to eat
and STAR-SHAPED leaves falling
while STARLIT SKIES SHIMMER
and TWINKLE like TINSEL
in the UNIVERSE UP above.

It’s when the earth is VEILED in leaves
but flame furred VIXENS
and foxes kiss beneath VENUS shining bright;
when WISE, WIDE-EYED owls hoot
and WICKED WITCHES and WARLOCKS WHOOP
as they WHOOSH and WHIZZ about on brooms.

It’s when XANTHOPHYLL fills
the Earth with golden shades of YELLOW
and fireworks go ZOOM and boom
and paint the night with a ZILLION colours)
