The Great Egg and Spoon Race

It was Easter in Fairy tale land and all the fairy tale characters had gathered to watch the annual Easter Three-Legged Egg and Spoon Race, the winner of which would take home the much coveted golden Egg Cup trophy, handed out each year by Prince Charming and Princess Cinderella.

That year there were four teams. Tom Thumb and Thumbelina; the owl and the pussycat; Snow White and her sister Rose Red and The Wicked Queen who had teamed up with the big bad wolf.

But, as usual, the Wicked Queen and The Big Bad Wolf planned to win by cheating and had glued their egg to their spoon so that it wouldn’t wobble or fall off.

They had also put glue onto the bottom of all the other competitors shoes so that they would be stuck to the starting line.

So when Puss In Boots fired the starting pistol , The wicked Queen and The Big Bad Wolf raced down the track to victory while all the other runners struggled to lift their feet or tripped and fell face first in the mud.

But then, just as they were being handed the golden egg cup by Prince Charming, the egg in their spoon started to hatch open and a little spring chick popped its head out.

“Don’t give them the trophy, prince”, said the little bird, “While I was in the egg I heard those two talking and they’re both cheaters”.

“Then who should I give the trophy to?”, asked the Prince.

Fortunately, just at that moment, Snow White and Rose Red came running up the track. They had decided to take off their shoes and run the race barefoot.

Happily the Prince handed Snow White and Rose Red the trophy while The Wicked Queen and the Big bad wolf, those two very bad eggs, were led off to the fairyland jail.
