“Beat the clock” – Idea for Time Lock Escapology Method
- Effect – A magician has to make a very quick escape, beating a loudly ticking clock. He manages to escape just at the very last second.
- How? Everything he has to escape from has a time lock on it that is set to spring open by itself before the countdown has finished.
**Sound Based Teleportation Trick**
There are two boxes, one at the front of the audience and another at the back of the audience.
1. The magician gets into the box in front of the audience and slips out through a secret trap door but there is a microphone inside the box through which the magicians recorded voice speaks to the audience so that it sounds as if he is still in the box.
2. While that recorded voice is speaking to the audience the magician secretly but quickly makes his way to the back of the theatre and gets into the box behind the audience. The empty boxes must also do things like flashing or rotating or rising up into the air so that the audience is visually entertained and doesn't get bored while the magician is switching boxes.
3. Now the recorded voice inside the first box announces that he is about to teleport, at which point the microphone inside box A is switched off and a microphone inside Box B (the one at the back of the audience) is switched on and, through that microphone, the magician now speaks to the audience pretending that he has just teleported.
4. Then the magician appears out of box B, revealing himself to his audience and his audience, stunned, applaud.
Egyptian Queen Trick Idea
- Effect: The magician opens a Pharaoh’s coffin. He says that it is the coffin of an ancient Egyptian queen. His beautiful assistant enters dressed as an Egyptian queen and lies down in the coffin. He closes the coffin for just a few seconds, opens it again and she has vanished but then he closes it once more, opens it again after only a few seconds and a mummy is lying there wrapped in bandages . The mummy rises up and steps out of the coffin. Then the magician takes hold of one of the Mummy’s bandages and pulls as the mummy spins round, the bandages unravel to reveal the magicians beautiful assistant underneath.
2. How? Within the coffin there are two sets of trap doors. One in the false bottom of the box and one in the ornately carved lid of the coffin. There are also twins. One twin who is wrapped in bandages and lying hidden in the lid of the coffin and the other twin who enters the coffin and disappears.
3. When Twin one enters the coffin and lies down, and the magician closes the lid, she falls down through the trapdoor in the false bottom of the coffin landing in a secret compartment below. Then, when the magician closes the lid again, Twin two, wrapped in bandages, falls out of the trapdoor in the lid of the coffin and lands in the coffin.
Random Magnet Ideas
Hidden magnets are a great way to perform mentalist tricks.
Magnets hidden in non-metal objects: In order to disguise magnetism you could hide magnets inside non-metal objects, for example hollow objects made of wood.
Magnetic Dowsing: Finding an object hidden in one of several boxes is easy if the object is magnetic and your dowsing rod is metal. A) Also use this to find playing cards with metal strips hidden inside them. B) Find something metal hidden with a pendulum that has a magnet in it. c)Find something with a magnetic ring on your finger.
Fake flesh glove with magnets inside: Magicians often perform tricks with fake thumb tips but what if you were to wear a plastic (rubber) glove that looked just like your hand but had magnets hidden inside, think of the acts of Telekinesis/Dowsing you could perform. (Even better if you could switch the magnetism on and off then you could wear them all the time).
Magnetic Ouija: If magnets are hidden inside non-metal objects, such as wood then people may feel the slight pulling force of the magnet without guessing that its magnetism. (The stronger the pull is the more obvious it would probably be).
Magic Powder: Imagine if you dyed iron filings, ground up finely, to disguise them, you could call them magic powder and control them by magnetism.
The Magic Powder Hour Glass: What would happen if you had an hour glass filled with iron powder and placed a strong magnet on top. Would the sands of time run backwards?
Magnetic Lie Detector: Disguise a compass as a lie detector and, whoever you wish it to point to, either get them to sit in the North or use a magnet to direct the needle towards them.
Magnetic lever: Want to switch on a hidden device? Have the device be activated by a lever with a iron or steel handle and pull it with a magnet.
Perfect Aim: Disguise a very strong magnet as a target; throw metal objects towards it and never miss.
Ice Magic: Freeze magnets and then appear to have power over ice.
An oldie but a goodie: Place a box over a steel object, secretly hold magnet close to top of the box, the object under the box will stick to the inside of it then, when you lift up the box, the object will have appeared to vanish.
Puzzle Box that opens from the inside: A Box has a sliding steel bolt inside and to draw it back and unlock the box, you move a magnet over the lid.
Magnetic Fly: Make a little fly/ flea/ bug or beetle of some kind out of metal and then control it with a magnet so that it appears to crawl where you want it, then fit it into a mentalism trick (the mind reading flea will pick your card).
Magnapicture – A background painted on a metal surface that you can stick foreground characters onto and change the picture to suit your preferences.
Levitating cloth – Why not make sheets/handkerchiefs containing steel thread that you can then make float with powerful magnets.
