“I need your help, Kali”, said the Black Cat sitting upon the old Rocking chair in Kali’s cottage, holding a broken wand in its paws.
“My help”, said the Dog wizard, “But I’m still a trainee wizard and not a very good one, at least not according to Minerva, my teacher; what can I do?”.
“You can fix my wand”, said the Cat, handing the snapped wand to Kali, “It got broken before I could finish my transformation spell, that’s how I got stuck in this feline body. Really, I’m …uh…a beautiful young enchantress named Baphomet”.
“Oh?”, said Kali, “But how do I fix a wand”.
“With a wand fixing spell of course”, said the cat, leaping down from the rocking chair and landing upon one of the big, old, dusty magical books lying around the room. Surely there must be one in one of these magic books of yours”.
“Uh, well”, said Kali, “Alright. I’ll try my best but, like I said, I’m only a trainee wizard”.
“Don’t worry about that. It’s only a little spell; easy enough for a novice to handle”, said the cat, leaping off of the book and onto the floor, “But please, do hurry up. I just hate being stuck in this cat form. I keep getting the most terrible craving to eat a…yuk…mouse”.
The cat eyed up a little, fat mouse that was walking across the floor carrying a large lump of yellow cheese in its paws and, seeing Baphomet’s green eyes glaring at it, the mouse dropped the cheese and scurried, terrified back to its hole.
“Alright”, said Kali, opening the book that Baphomet had been sitting upon and, turning its pages, flicking through its index, reading the names of Spells aloud, “Waking spells; water spells…oh , here we are…wand fixing spells”.
Then, turning to the page with the spell upon it, the border collie, holding up Baphomet’s broken wand in its right paw, started to read out the spell,
“Broken wand become restored;
return to magic health once more”.
Then, suddenly, Kali saw the wand begin to glow with a strange purple light, then it began to straighten and where it had been broken it now became whole.
“There you are”, said Kali, feeling a little proud of her accomplishment, “One magic wand as good as new”.
But just then, swiping with its left paw, the cat grabbed hold of the wand in Kali’s hand before, cackling loudly, it said,
“Ha! At last. Now, you foolish canine. I will show you some real magic”.
Then, suddenly, to Kali’s astonishment, she saw the cat begin to change and grow, its whiskers shrinking back into its face and its pointy ears becoming round, until finally, standing in front of the dog wizard was not a black cat nor even a beautiful young enchantress as the cat had said but an ugly old witch, dressed from head to toe in black with a tall black witches hat upon her head,
“My sister, the white witch, Glindora broke my wand to stop me from casting any more evil spells and trapped me in that cats body but now, thanks to you, I’m free. Now I can get back to being evil again”, said the witch, throwing her head back and laughing.
“Oh no”, said Kali, “What have I done”.
“It’s what I’m going to do to you that you ought to worry about, fool”, said the witch, pointing her wand towards Kali’s nose.
Then the witch began speaking a strange incantation,
“Magic wand, do your trick;
cast a spell and double –quick
turn this half-wit of a dog
into a little hopping frog”.
And then, suddenly, the wand glowed purple again and crackled with little sparks of purple electricity, a long bolt of purple lightning shooting out of the end of it towards Kali.
Cowering , Kali covered her eyes, afraid to look but then, just as she thought she was about to be turned into a frog, instead she heard a loud croaking noise and, uncovering her eyes, she saw that it was not she but Baphomet who had turned into a frog.
“You moron”, said the Witch, “You must have messed up that wand fixing spell; the wand backfired and now look at me, I’m a horrible warty old frog”.
“Phew”, said Kali, relieved, “Maybe it’s a good thing I’m only a trainee wizard”.
But then, leaping towards the frog witch, Kali barked loudly and, frightened, the little frog started to hop away towards an open window, only stopping to wave a tiny webbed fist and say,
“But this spell won’t last forever and when it wears off I’ll get me revenge upon you Kali, just wait and see”.
“Who was that frog Kali?”, said Minerva flapping in through the window just moment later, “It looked hopping mad”.
“A witch”, said Kali, looking ominously towards the window, “An evil one and, sadly, I don’t think it’s the last we’ll see of her either”.
