The Poorly Children

There once were two kids who were down in the dumps
'cause one had the measles and one had the mumps
and they both had to spend the whole Summer in bed
while others had fun in the sunshine instead.

 

So they both made a wish that they would get well soon.
One wished on the stars and one wished on the moon
and then down from the twilight on twinkling wings
came a pink fairy queen and a blue fairy king.

 

They flew down while the two little  kids were asleep
and then bright tears of moonlight and starlight, did weep;
that fell on the faces of the children in bed
and the mumps and the measles got frightened and fled.

 

They all flew out the window to some other place
till not one mump or measle was left on a face
then the two fairies, kissing the children goodnight,
flew back to the moon and the stars shining bright.

 

And the next morning when the kids opened their eyes
then they both got a really amazing surprise
for the mumps and the measles had all gone away
so then those little children both ran out to play.
