Once an old monk sent his young disciple to find a rainbow at the top of a hill.
“When you find the rainbow at the top of the hill, you will find wisdom”, he said.
And so his disciple climbed the hill to the top and he searched the top of the hill all day but he couldn’t find a rainbow anywhere.
So then he went back to his master and said,
“Master I went up to the top of the hill like you told me and I looked for the rainbow that you said would be there but I couldn’t see it anywhere. Are you sure there is a rainbow up there?”.
“Oh yes”, the master said, “But don’t worry. I will go with you tomorrow and show you where the rainbow is”.
And so the next day the monk and his disciple both climbed up the hill together and then, when they were both standing at the top, the old monk asked him,
“Now do you see the rainbow?”.
“No”, said the monk, looking round about him, none the wiser.
“Then look down”, replied the monk.
So the disciple looked down from the hilltop and, suddenly, he gasped with amazement for then he saw all the bright colours of the world far below that looked just like a rainbow.
