The Chessplayers (Parable)
A king and his minister were playing chess but while they were something strange started to happen.
Each time one of the players captured an opponents piece, the piece cried out in pain and blood poured out of it.
And after sometime the whole board was covered in blood and it stained the hands of the players.
"This is intolerable", said the king, "How can I play chess if I have to watch every pawn writhe in agony upon the board and have their blood upon my hands".
Moral: Real war is a horrible thing.

The Parliament in the Fields (Fable)
Once, the sheep and cows in a field had a parliament. On one side of the parliament the sheep would bleat and on the other side the cows would moo and all took it very seriously and acted as if all their mooing and bleating made a difference but when the farmer came out the sheep and cows would obey him and come when he called.
Moral: Democracy is often no more than a show and the real power lies in the hands of a wealthy ruling elite.

The Tortoise and The Cheetah (Fable)
Every year the Tortoise and the Cheetah had a race and, when the Cheetah was young and strong it would always win the race very easily, but as the years went on the Cheetah got older and older while the Tortoise aged very slowly and, one day, when the Cheetah was an old man with greying fur, and shaky legs and blurred vision, the Tortoise won the race.
"I knew that, if I bided my time, in the end I would win", said the Tortoise.
Moral: The greatest power is the power to endure. It will always win in the end.

Angry Lions and Hungry Rhino's (Fable)
A schoolboy was once told, "Lions are dangerous when they're hungry and Rhino's when they're angry".
But the boy wasn't listening when he was being told this. He was too busy trying to swat a fly with his tie and what he heard was, "Lions are dangerous when they're angry and Rhino's when they're hungry".
So when, one day, he met a lion and he saw that it was smiling and licking the lips of its smile he thought, "Its not angry so it must be safe" and he went up to it to shake its hand.
And he wouldn't have a hand to shake or, anything else today for that matter, if an angry rhino hadn't come charging towards the lion and scared him away.
Moral: Listen and you'll learn; learn and you'll live longer.
