Velvet petals
Of glossy gold
Reach for the sun
As they unfold.
Revived from a bed
Of winter’s cold earth
They stretch right up
To show their worth.
Bathed in warmth
They seem to glow
With the delight
That loved ones know.
Then, at days’ end
Each petal does close,
Silent beauty
In sweet repose.
