I am gone. I never was.

My crown of glass
Slipped to my shoulder
Tumbled to the ground
And splintered into
Sharp prisms of rainbow lights.
In every fragment
I saw a hope, a wish, a dream
Scattered around my feet.
You picked up the pieces
Examining my mind
The jagged remnants
Of a careless fraud
So this is what you wanted?
Your tongue is slicing through me
Cutting my skin like melting butter
Splintering my bones into dust
When I am just ashes
Crumbled in the palm of your hand
You walk purposefully
To open the window.
Then lay your hand flat
Take a deep breath
And blow
I am gone.
I never was.
You collect the fragments
Of my crown into
Yesterday's newspaper
Wrap them carefully
And drop the parcel
Into the swing top bin
In your kitchen.
In your kitchen, that night
She sits grasping tweezers
Concentrating on the sole of your foot
You bleed as she removes a sunset on the beach
You are now completely free
You celebrate with cheap white wine
In the morning she takes a damp cloth
And wipes the dust from the window sill
I am gone forever.
I was never here.
