Beyond the wasted years
I claw back time
Bundles of hours
Crumpled into fists
Enveloped by wrinkled fingers
Salted with agony
I scrape a burial mound
To mark its passing
My heart knells farewell
Passion scattered by pebbled earth
We knew it wouldn’t last
Precious minutes seep downwards
Nestling against embers
Long dampened
Nostrils tremble in the steam
From the tarmac
As we drive home
Through the rain.
