Shadow dancing
.
Why didn't we dance
a hundred times or more,
why just that once
even if it felt like
a hundred times or more?
.
When I look at the walls
by the flickering candle light,
I still see our shadows dancing,
two imprints on time,
bound in love, holding eachother tight.
.
Stars came out above as we danced,
beautiful silent witnesses
to the swelling music
flowing from a car stereo
straight into our hearts.
.
I still smile when I think back
to the smile on the bus driver's face
when he turned up the volume,
to the worried look and reprimanding finger
with which your mom greeted us
when we walked in, well after dark.
.
But the humming in our hearts,
a soft, vibrant echo resounding inside,
drowned out all that didn't belong there
and still today
I need but close my eyes
to still feel the humming inside me,
dream imagery, caught on life.
.
Thinking back, the words made no sense,
less even
than dancing on a street
next to an old minibus.
.
But when the opportunity comes,
at that right time and place,
to dance to the melody of life
there is naught to do
but to dance the night away
and cherish all that is good in life
and all that I found inside you.
