Is it innate or learnt?

Like any
Other skill or knowledge
We should acknowledge

Nobody is born
With a skill or talent

Rousseau said
We are tabula rasa
Empty slates
To be filled later

Through
Formal or
Informal education

If poetry is innate
Everybody could
Have been a poet

Poets are
Rear species
'coz those
Exceptionally
Bright can
Only be found
In a place
That is right

Is poetry
Merely rhyming?
Arranging
Words to give meaning

Or is it
Deep with
Double meaning
Difficult
To comprehend

Like Picaso's
Abstract art?
Needs special
Gift to
Overstand

Or is beautiful
Poetry
Written in
Simple language

Accessible to all
For those with
Education or not

Poetry, like music
Or work of art
Is a skill that
Can be nurtured

If you have the 'gift'
That is what
I'm trying to do
In this small piece
If it can be accepted
