The scene is set,
To a canvas of royal blue,
Dotted with sparkle,
Clear from grey, mist, fog or cloud.
Where land meets liquid,
Where they lap and crush together,
A lone figure stands,
Washed up many years ago.
His body is old and worn,
His skin saggy and pale,
But his face glistens orange,
From the dying embers of his fire.
Before, the fire was big,
Savage and unyielding,
Now it crackles out,
Into the darkness of the lonely night.
