In reverie,
transported by mists of evening,
a pool, jet-black, mirror-still.
On the horizon,
the bark of white-tipped, silver birches
etched on phosphorescent sky.
Only once
in a lifetime, a moment such as this
that could so easily be missed …
So I waited.
Afraid to move, to breathe, break the spell,
till my heart became replete
of clear,
dark water and white-tipped birches.
Whiter still, a fingernail moon – just rising.
Nothing stirred.
Save a pair of mating swans,
slicing through the quietness of it all.

Yes, what a wonderfully
Yes, what a wonderfully evoked moment, and funnily enough, the dog and I have just returned from a snowball-fest walk, the river is so still, and nobody was moving, then suddenly the pair of swans flew over, honking, shattering the silence....
So to come in and read this was just perfect! I cannot pick a line I like the most!

Beautiful! If you had painted a picture on canvas, it could not have been more perfect. I obviously agree with all the above however, one line stood out for me in terms of imagery:
...'Whiter still, a fingernail moon – just rising'
Perfection is not a million miles away from here! I fancy I see some cherries amongst the birches.
