Blackbird Rapper

While strolling on one summers’ morn,
this day’s sun just newly born;
through a hedge, as I did pass,
I spied a blackbird in the grass.
As I admired his yellow beak
he turned to me and he did speak
‘Whatchyou eyeballing me fo’ man
I’s tryin’ to eat, is you a fan?
Gimme some space an’ haul yo’ ass
cos wit you dare, I feel harass!’
You know what I’m sayin’?’
Well I was quite taken aback
I’d no intent to spoil his snack
But I must say that to my mind
I’d earned no right to be maligned
And expectations of my walk
Did not include a blackbirds’ talk
‘Dude, why’s you lookin so uncool
You tink you rappin wit a fool?
I earned my wings man; tha’s a fac’
You tink I’m dumb jus’ cos I’m black?
You know what I’m sayin’?’
I offered that I thought him rude
and that he’d quite ruined my mood.
On felicity he’d cast a cloud
which really shouldn’t be allowed;
these were my fields here after all
and where I stood, should be my call
‘Hey don’ start givin’ me that jive
cos you don’ care if I survive.
I’ll hit the sky cos I ain’t dead
and pop a crap down on yo’ head.
You know what I’m sayin’?’
From that day on, I listen for
the dawn chorus at my back door.
It lifts my heart; as ever did
and that rude rapper must be hid
The blackbird’s still by far the best;
(I hope a cuckoo finds his nest!)
You know what I’m sayin’?’
