THE FLORAL SURPRISE (IP) True

I took a stroll through the park
looking for some skylarks
on a beautiful hot sunny day
watched the children out to play

Some had drawings of
the dove of peace
and the emblazing
golden sun
everyone had their
sun cream on

A little boy crying
look! look!
as a grey squirrel
with a bushy tail
had sat on his book

An angel faced child
reading her ABC
another shouted
"I want to watch t.v."

"A lady basking in the deckchair
icecream entangled in her hair
slippers on her feet
she didn't care

Then there was a rustle
from the trees
Kites of all kinds
octopus eight tentacles
yellow flying in the breeze"

"Wisteria floribunda"
hanging down
in dew drop jewels

"Fragrance at it's best
when it is calm"

A vintage car is arriving
decked with balloons
crowds are running
holding bunches of
passion flowers

the bride steps out
the car in her sarong
holding the hand
of the groom
so tall and strong
with his top hat on

Gave her a kiss
is this wedding bliss
as the intricate colours
from a rainbow

of sun and showers
formed an arch
remembering their
day in the park

The roses reds and pinks
softly blowing in the wind
dogs were doing a roly poll

But there were the fish
I could have gone and seen
the big carp all gone

"Goldfish emerging to the top
their mouths open
in the murky green water
going blurp! blurp!
for oxygen and air"

Then I saw something really odd!
as I passed along the path
the tall green spike of the
palm tree plant

with blooming flowers
circled all around

Did I see?
a movement
right in the centre there
I just stood and stared

But sure enough I was right
a man stood behind the palm tree
what? a surprise

He seemed to aim the camera at me
true I had my pink frilly sunhat on
must have looked stupid
or something wrong?

So I moved a pace
I could see the man
ducked behind

then he pretended
to point it up high
to the top of the
green leaves

Maybe I should followed suit
and wear a grass skirt
and play the maraccus
I think that man was crackers

Did he think?
he was playing
Eye' Spy'
but why?

Behind a palm tree
I'll never know
I walked past
the flower beds
of mixtured colours
pansies nodding their heads

So I got home
and pondered over
what I'd seen

and thought that would
make unusual photo setting
I had got permission
we went back next day
torrential rain had laid

I crossed the middle
without treading
on the plants
but the mud
was all sodden
my shoes sank

put my arms around the tree
spikes were gripping in me
as the rain began to drip
I wondered
if it was all worth it
